I use historical photographs from before "Al Nakba" in 1948 as the main source material for my drawings. The Arabic word "Al Nakba" translates in English to catastrophe. In this historical time, Palestinians were massacred and displaced from their native homeland of Palestine. I aim to remember and honor forgotten Palestinians of a lost generation. I develop these images by creating a distinct surface texture. The drawing therefore contains a visual history of its own in parallel to the history of a people. From there, I begin drawing the image into the surface, scratching, mark making and blending to bring forth its essence.
