Most of the people in my work are family members. There is something I aim to understand about everyone. Daniel is my uncle on my fathers side. He is 39 and is the youngest of 11 siblings. He also struggles with schizophrenia & bipolar disorder. To be honest it is difficult to emotionally connect with him because he is not aware of reality. I wanted to find a way where I could connect with him. Painting is an avenue for connection for me. I contemplated painting a portrait of him for a while. One night I passed by the living room and saw he sleeping on the couch, there was a beautiful moment of peace on his face & I felt it had to be visually translated into a painting. A moment between peace and sleep, between chaos and calm
